Chapter 850 of the Codified Ordinance of the City of Kenton took effect in November of 1960. It established a 1% income tax on earned income and business profits for anyone that works or lives in the city. In 1979, the tax rate was raised to 1.5% by popular vote. It has remained at that level since.

The Tax Department web page endeavors to provide you with information and forms to help you file your Kenton City Income Tax correctly and in a timely fashion. If you do not find the information you need at this website, please feel free to contact this office at the address or phone number listed above.

Basic Reminders:

As of January 1, 2001, anybody who lives or works in the City of Kenton is required to file a city tax return.

The deadline for filing Kenton city tax is April 15th.

An extension of time must be submitted in writing before April 15th. A federal extension is acceptable. Payment of tax must still be made by April 15th.

The first quarter estimated tax payment for the current year is due April 30th. Subsequent quarterly payments are due June 30th, September 30th, and December 31st.

A business loss cannot be offset against wages. The wages are still fully taxable.

Notice: Effective as January 1, 2010, the City of Kenton deleted the income tax credit for out-of-town workers who live in the City of Kenton and pay income tax to another city or village.  Prior to January 1, 2010, workers who lived in the City of Kenton and paid income tax to another city or village were allowed to take a credit (or reduction) from their tax liability owned to the City of Kenton for the taxes paid to the other cities or villages.  On December 28, 2009, City Council passed an ordinance repealing this credit.  As a result, for the 2010 tax year, residents will no longer be able to claim any credits for income tax paid to other cities or villages. Residents will still be able to take the credit on their 2009 City of Kenton Income Tax Return.
